Come To The Big Flea! Buy Cool Stuff! Support Education!

April 24th, 2010 (07:21 am)

current mood: exhausted

It's here! Saturday, April 24, is the day of the Big Flea, the annual flea market sale run by the PTA at Mount Vernon Community School. All proceeds directly benefit the kids at this public elementary school in Alexandria, Virginia, by paying for field trips, in-classroom enrichment, after-school clubs, the lunch money fund, and more. This is the fourth year we've held the Big Flea, and this year's goal is more than $12,000 in sales. Please come to the sale and help us achieve that goal.

I was helping to set up for it all day Friday, and I can tell you that we've got a lot of great items for sale! You can get amazing deals on furniture, household items, toys and games, bikes and sporting equipment, and more. The sale is at the Mount Vernon Rec Center (which doubles as the school gym) in the Del Ray neighborhood of Alexandria. At the same time, the public library next door, the Duncan Branch of the Alexandria City Public Library system, is holding a mammoth book and movie sale.

Here is the Big Flea schedule:

8:00 a.m.    Early Admission ($10 entry fee)
9:00 a.m.    General Admission (free)
12 noon      Everything is 50% off!
2:00 p.m.    Everything left is FREE!

Everyone is invited; you don't have to be affiliated with the school. Also, you should know that we do not take credit cards, and we accept checks only from people we know. So bring plenty of cash!

The Mount Vernon Rec Center is at 2701 Commonwealth Ave., Alexandria, VA 22305.
