George Washington's Outhouse

March 7th, 2010 (10:33 pm)

current mood: tired

Went on Snarfari today with [info]katekintail[info]melydia[info]thecrrcookieand Melanie, as well as two mini-snarfers and one patient husband. The sky was blue, the day was bright and breezy and the weather was much warmer than just a few days ago. We toured the Mount Vernon estate, where we saw the new museum and visitors' center as well as the grounds. And yes, we did see George Washington's privy. It's a three-seater.

We visited Woodlawn Plantation and the Pope-Leighey House there (a Frank Lloyd Wright house). And on the way home some of us stopped briefly by George Washington's Grist Mill and Distillery. Many, many snarfs were snarfed. And a good time was had by all.

I had planned to write more about this, but my mouse died a few minutes ago, and the touchpad is driving me crazy.

*grin* Three in a row isn't very private ;)

Ha! 18th century life was probably not very private, in general. A friend said she could just imagine George sitting there on one seat while Lafayette sat at his side, each taking care of business while the two discussed military strategy.

I know. But they *did* call it a privy, which is why I commented. ;)
