Spring Break Road Trip!

April 2nd, 2009 (09:34 pm)

current mood: productive

We're planning a road trip for a couple days over Spring Break. Yippee! We usually go away the weekend closest to my son's birthday in January, but this year that was the Inauguration (we're in the D.C. area, remember), so we postponed our trip. That turned out to be a good thing. He's been wanting to ride on the Strasburg Railroad, an old-fashioned steam engine near Lancaster, Pennsylvania. But it's closed in January. It is not closed in April! We now have a Ticket To Ride (cue his favorite group, the Beatles).
The area also boasts of several train-related museums, which will make him very happy. It will probably make me very bored, but I can live with that for a few hours. We might even take the Herrs Potato Chip Factory Tour.

Hotel availability was really bad; most places I tried were all booked up. Apparently Strasburg, PA, is a bigger Spring Break draw than I realized. Finally I had to resort to a resort. Yes, I was forced to book at a higher class of hotel than I'd originally planned on, a nice resort property with suites and an indoor pool. A little pricier than I'd wanted, but you gotta do what you gotta do. It's a sacrifice I'll just have to live with.

Enjoy Strasburg!

Hi Cathy,
You and Jon Morgan will LOVE the Strasburg Railroad! We went there with Tyler and Nicolas (a couple of children ago--ha!) and had a screaming blast. Trains are such a fun thing for little boys, and watching their wonder is so cool. Have a great time, and enjoy your splurge on the resort!
