Apparently, It's Spring Already

February 19th, 2009 (06:01 pm)

current mood: annoyed

I tried to buy my little boy a pair of bedroom slippers at Target today and was told that Target has not had bedroom slippers in stock for weeks. The sales associate said, "We don't carry them this time of year. They're a seasonal item." When I asked her what season, she said the store has them only in the winter.

Last time I checked, February was a winter month, at least in the northern hemisphere. Retail is a strange business.

Target has already moved the bathing suits to the clearance rack. In February. It's still in the 30s here. And the bathing suits are on clearance. Look for those slippers in July. (Perhaps the youngin' would be interested in a nice pair of sandals instead?)

This is a lesson I have been trying to teach my husband for years. You cannot go out and buy shorts when you need them - you have to buy them months in advance in anticipation of needing them. Thank God for the Internet - I just bought Tyler a pair of slippers from Landsend.com because he wore out the cheapie Batman ones I got from Target (and as you found they don't have any more in stock!) - I also think in hindsight that the cheapies weren't worth the money because they wore out so quickly!
