Moving On Up. Or Not.

Did I mention that we're moving? At least, we're trying to. We've been searching for months for a larger house in our own neighborhood, the Del Ray area of Alexandria. Unfortunately, houses for sale in Del Ray are few and far between. And when they do go on the market, they tend to be either no larger than our own, or in the $1 million-plus price range.

So unfortunately we have had to broaden our search a bit to include houses in adjacent neighborhoods. We have found a few that might work, though I'll be loathe to leave Del Ray, if it comes to that.

But we can't make an offer on a house until our own is nearly ready to put on the market. And we're still not there. For one thing, the house needs repairs. We've had a handyman here to work on some of them, and he's made quite a bit of progress, but he's been busy on other jobs and hasn't been over lately.

The other thing we have to do is to move a lot of stuff out of the house before it is considered market-ready. We've filled a 10x10-foot storage unit, and begun on a second unit. I've also filled my book shed with more tubs of books -- and a few filled with other belongings. And a few days ago, a friend of my son's came over, and I went through boxes in the basement to throw things out and pack up other items, while the two teenage boys carried them out to the garage. The photo shows some of the piles of stuff now in the garage; it will be a long time before the car can fit in there again!

So now a big section of the basement is now empty, but there is still so much more to do! The next job: to finish clearing out my home office.
