Teaser Tuesdays: The Jewel & Her Lapidary

May 24th, 2017 (05:28 pm)

• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• On your blog or other social media, share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers! Everyone loves Teaser Tuesday. Post a link at www.ThePurpleBooker.com/ as a response to the week's Teaser Tuesday.

My teaser this week is from a book I bought at the Nebula Awards weekend in Pittsburgh a few days ago, The Jewel & Her Lapidary, by Fran Wilde. It was on the short list for the Nebula Award for Best Novelette. The book begins with a palace coup in which all members of the royal family and their most trusted advisors are killed, except for two teenage girls: Lin, the king's youngest daughter, and Sima, her servant and companion. This teaser is from pages 33 and 34.

"In the moonstone hall where generations of valley kings had held court, Sima's robe left a muddy smear on the pale tiles. When she lifted her head, she saw Lin, draped in her chains, hauled through the broken doors behind her."
