Idaho Potatoes, Anyone? Or Perhaps Some Coconut Cream Pie?

July 16th, 2008 (03:44 pm)

current mood: cheerful

I sent in my registration and booked my plane ticket to Idaho for the National Federation of Press Women conference in September. Except that my plane isn't actually going to Idaho. The conference is in Idaho Falls, but the Idaho Falls airport will be under construction and can accommodate only one airline, Alaska Air, which doesn't help me much. None of the other airlines will actually be flying into Idaho Falls when the time comes. So I'm flying into Salt Lake City and finding a way to get to Idaho from there. I've heard there is some sort of shuttle available, but I might just rent a car and drive. I have to look into it and compare prices.

I'm on a panel of book authors for one event, and I will be hosting a roundtable on writing children's books, as well.

And Dawn Wells, who played Mary Ann on Gilligan's Island, is one of the speakers. Go figure.

I don't remember for sure if I've been to Idaho before (same for Montana and North Dakota). My mother thinks we might have driven through those three states when we lived in Washington when I was a baby. I know I was in South Dakota on that trip - I've seen a picture of my baby self visiting Mount Rushmore. But I've now been for sure to the 47 other states; it's just those three I'm not sure of. After this trip, I'll be able to cross off one more, for certain, on my quest to conquer the country.

Sigh. I wish I had a manager, so I could get approvals (or denials) on this trip.
