Teaser Tuesday: Circle of Magic, Daja's Book

Teaser Tuesdays
is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of A Daily Rhythm. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (Make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away. You don’t want to ruin the book for others.)
• Share the title and author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR (To-Be-Read) lists if they like your teasers!

And here is mine for this week:

Today's teaser is from Daja's Book, the third book in the "Circle of Magic" series by Tamora Pierce. Daja is one of four young people who have special magical abilities they do not yet know how to control. She is an apprentice smith who is learning conventional ways of working metal, but she is also working to understand her uniquely powerful magic that seems to be drawn from metal ores. In this scene, on page 24, the iron bars she is working with seem to come alive, shaping themselves into a vine that begins to wrap itself around her.

"Startled by the feel of iron on her skin — though she could handle red-hot metal without getting burned, the sensation was an odd one — Daja looked down. A third iron branch had reached between the fingers on her free hand, then wrapped around her palm and over her wrist."

How interesting! I love books that involve magic. Your teaser has me wanting to know more. I hope it's a good one!

Yes! It's the third in a series of four, though each stands pretty well on its own. They're about a group of four children who, in a world where there are mages and magic, have particularly powerful and unusual magic. Each book focuses on a different one of the four children. Now I have to order the next one!
