A Week In the Bayou, Day 3: May 3, 2008

May 19th, 2008 (04:22 pm)

current mood: cheerful

Time for another day of Louisiana photos. This is Day 3, spent entirely in Baton Rouge. We had more of the NFPW board meeting this day, but we also had time for some fun.

0916 a.m. Fountain 9:16 a.m.
A nice, picturesque fountain near the Old State Capitol building.
12:34 p.m. And here is the Old State Capitol building. It's no longer used as the state capitol, since a new, highrise .(castle) 12:34 p.m. Old State Capitol
The board attended an awards luncheon held by the Louisiana Press Women here in this magnificent old building. I told my son I ate lunch in a castle.
1239 p.m. Stained Glass 12:39 p.m.
This is the gorgeous stained glass ceiling of the Old State Capitol. I think I'll install one just like it in my house. I also loved the beautiful circular staircase that swooped up beneath it. Can I have one of those, too?
1449 p.m. Skunk 2:49 p.m.
This toy skunk, remote-controlled and quite realistic, was part of a great arts festival that was going on all weekend in the streets near the Old State Capitol. I bought some art, but no skunks.
1729p.m. Skyline of Baton Rouge 5:29 p.m. Skyline of Baton Rouge
The city, as seen from along the river. The dome you see is the planetarium inside the science museum.
1835 p.m. 6:35 p.m.
Whoever said that Southern food wasn't healthy? Food served at the arts festival included cajun-fried fries, alligator sauce, and even fried oreos. No, I did not sample any of this. But while in Baton Rouge, I did have crabcakes and a catfish po' boy.
1921p.m. Baton Rouge sign 7:21 p.m. Baton Rouge sign
A hand-painted sign near the river, not far from our hotel.
1921p.m. Up, Up, and Away 7:21 p.m. Up, Up, and Away
A fighter jet on display outside the U.S.S. Kidd museum.

Walken says

This is all so cool!

The stained glass is beautiful, you got to eat some LA crabcakes and po'boys, and that jet rocks!

Ooo. Aaah. Pretty. And the sun finally came out! Yay! (Oh, come on. Surely the fried oreos were vegetarian, right?)
