* 1891 - George Adamski, Polish-born American known for books on UFOs.
* 1897 - Thornton Wilder, American playwright & novelist who won three Pulitzer Prizes; best known for the novel The Bridge of San Luis Rey and the play Our Town.
* 1911 - George Seaton, American playwright & screenwriter who played the Lone Ranger on the radio; he devised the line "Hi-yo, Silver!" because he didn't know how to whistle, as the script required.
