Speaking of Nerdiness....

September 5th, 2007 (12:49 pm)

current mood: thoughtful

Recently I attended a BookCrossing meet-up. BookCrossing is a website that encourages you to register your books online and "release into the wild" any that you finished with and don't want to keep around. (I usually DO want to keep mine around, but occasionally I find one that I won't read again.) If someone picks up one of yours and makes an online entry, you can track your released book as it travels from reader to reader.

I pulled into the parking lot where the meeting was to be held, and I felt a moment's indecision: Do I turn off the CD player in mid-song and head into the meeting, or do I sit in the car until the end of the song? I was listening to the soundtrack of the musical episode of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," and Spike was singing. (Right now you're either nodding your head in sympathy, or rolling your eyes in the knowledge that I am an unspeakable nerd.) I decided to turn off Spike and go into the meeting. As I walked to the table, I caught the end of a conversation among a group of people I'd never before met. They were discussing a local movie theater (the Avalon) that had a sing-along showing of the musical episode of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer"! I felt as if I'd found my tribe.

I know that tribe, although I've only seen that episode once...
