Saturday Photo Hunt: SEASONAL

The destruction wrought by this week's hurricane must have me in a bleak mood. For this week's Saturday Photo Hunt theme, "Seasonal," I kept thinking about the devastating seasonal weather events that seem to be more and more common, and I remembered some photos I took last year on a road trip through the Southeast U.S.

We may be in hurricane season now, in the fall. But in some parts of the United States, tornadoes are the scariest part of spring. Driving through Tuscaloosa, Alabama, we came across a part of town that looked like a war zone. Tuscaloosa had been hit hard by a tornado in April of that year. Six weeks later, the rebuilding had barely begun.

My mind boggles at the seasonal things you have to look 'forward' to. Stay safe this season.

Not so much here. I'm in the Washington, D.C., area, a pretty moderate-weather part of the country. We're far enough inland so that most of the hurricanes miss us. Even the one last week wasn't too bad here; it was much worse farther north.
