Going Through the Gate ... to Montreal and Various Distant Planets

August 3rd, 2009 (10:51 pm)

Yippee! The editor of the Stargate books responded to my e-mail and would be happy to look at a proposal for a book. (Thanks, klingonguy for the contact info!) The editor answered a few questions for me and was quite encouraging. Now, to write that proposal....

Of course, I am leaving for Montreal and WorldCon in the morning, so I might not get much done on a Stargate book proposal until I return home next week. I'll have my brand new laptop with me, in case I do find some time between sessions and networking activities.

There will be a learning curve. Not about Stargate; I'm up on the characters and mythology, especially for SG1. But aforementioned brand new laptop is loaded with brand new software -- and a brand new operating system (Vista) that I've never used. I've decided I'll fiddle around with Vista for a while. If it's driving me crazy, I'll "downgrade" to XP. But whichever operating system I end up with, I'm sure I can conquer my software issues and get familiar enough with the new system to write a proposal on the computer. Or at least, to start on it this week.

I am so psyched about writing for Stargate. While I'd love to get back to one of "my own" books, with original characters and settings, I need to make some money this year, even if it's not a lot of money. And if I were to jump right back into one of the two book manuscripts-in-progress, it's doubtful that I'd make anything at all on it for many months. Or longer. Stargate feels like the right project at the right time.
