OK, here's another meme. This is one I borrowed from katekintail, who borrowed it from someone else. I'll hide this one behind a link....

Elaborate on your default icon.
It's a photo of me, holding a toy dragon. Mostly, I use it because it was the only recent photo of myself that I could find when I set up this blog, because I hate having my picture taken and usually make sure I'm on the other side of the camera. But this photo does have significance. My latest book to be published is about dragons. And I won this particular dragon at a Nebula awards ceremony, where it was part of a table decoration honoring the awesome speaker, novelist Anne McCaffrey, who then agreed to be interviewed for my dragon book.

What's your current relationship status?
Married for 18 years, and mom to the World's Cutest, Smartest, and Most Eccentric 6-Year Old.

Ever have a near-death experience?
Nope. Though I have dreamed that I died. So no, it's not true, the old myth that dreaming about your own death will cause you to die from fright.

What's the name of the song that's stuck in your head right now?
Theme song to the PBS Kids show Dragon Tales. This must have something to do with the answers above about my photograph with a dragon, and my six-year-old.

Has anyone ever said you look like a celebrity?
Yes, but always a different celebrity. I have been told I look like: Faye Dunaway, Winona Ryder, Ricki Lake, Bebe Neuwirth, Debra Winger, Celine Dion, and probably a few others I'm forgetting. Go figure.

Do you wear a watch? What kind?
My Harry Potter watch. This is Harry Potter from the pre-movie days, when WB had the only license for Harry-related merchandise. The face has a blue background with Harry on his broomstick, playing Quidditch. The second hand is a Golden Snitch that revolves around the face. The band has been replaced many, many times and is currently a shiny new, reddish-brown fake alligator hide.

Do you have anything pierced?
One hole in each ear. I know, boring.

Do you have any tattoos?
None. I have nothing against them; I just never felt the urge.

Do you like pain?
No. Should I?

Do you like to shop?
Depends on what I'm shopping for and where I'm shopping. Hate shopping malls. Love Amazon.com and nearly any bookstore.

What was the last thing you paid for with cash?
Produce and bread at my neighborhood farmer's market.

What was the last thing you paid for with your credit card?
Two kinds of cheese at my neighborhood cheese store.

What is your desktop background?
At the moment, a picture of a brilliant pink-and-purple-streaked sunset  I took on my street a few weeks ago.

What is the background on your cell phone?
None. My cell phone has been inoperable for months.

Do you like redheads?
Sure. Why not? Occasionally I have even been one.

Do you know any twins?
Sure. I have twin baby nieces. Twin seven-year-old girls live across the street from me. There are several sets of twins in my MOMS Club. Among others.... I even know a set of quadruplets.

Do you have any weird relatives?
Yes, most of them. And we like it that way.

What was the last movie you watched?
I saw part of Please Don't Eat the Daisies on TCM this weekend. The last one in the movie theatre was the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2.

What was the last book you read?
Currently reading The Tin Drum, by Gunter Grass. Last book finished would be The Cheese Monkeys, by Chip Kidd.

Is there such a thing as love at first sight, or is it more likely to be "lust at first sight"?
I wouldn't totally rule out the love-at-first-sight idea, but I generally believe that real love takes time to develop. If it's at first sight, it's probably lust.

What's your favorite novel?
I have way too many to choose just one. A few of them: To Kill A Mockingbird (Harper Lee), Watership Down (Richard Adams), Crime and Punishment (Dostoevsky), and Druids (Morgan Llewellyn).

When was the last time you visited the street where you first lived?
I don't think I ever have. I was born in the Seattle area, but my family moved away when I was only a few months old. I've been back to Seattle since then, but I have no idea where we lived there.

Do you read your horoscope?
Seldom. Though if I'm reading something else on that page of the newspaper, it occasionally catches my eye. I do not take it seriously.

Who's your favorite of the seven dwarves?
Right now, I'd have to say Sleepy.

What was your favorite subject at school?
English, and art.

What was your least favorite subject at school?
P.E.

Do you like having your photograph taken?
Not at all.

What time were you born?
It was around 4:30 in the afternoon.

Ever seriously questioned your sanity?
Not really.

How many phone numbers do you have remembered and can say off the top of your head?
Eight, including two work numbers from places where I was employed many years ago and no longer have any reason to call, but that stuck in my head anyway.

Can you Limbo?
That would depend on how high you set the pole.

Have you ever killed your own dinner?
I frequently pick and eat vegetables from the yard. Does that count? I'm a vegetarian, so don't expect any deer-hunting stories. In my childhood, growing up with my father The Great White Hunter, I ate various things that my dad shot, including an enormous elk that lasted forever. That's probably why I'm a vegetarian. I also have, in the past, caught fish and crabs that I ate, but I think someone else handled the actual killing part.

What phobias do you have?
Cockroaches and crickets.

What's your ideal breakfast?
I'm not enough of a morning person to want to eat much very early in the day. Usually I just have Wheat Chex with some nuts and dried cranberries sprinkled on top. Sometimes I put a few teaspoons of soy milk over them. I wouldn't call that ideal, though. It just is.

Where are you right now?
In my home office, at the computer on my desk.

If you could suddenly get the skill to play any single musical instrument, which would you choose?
I'm not sure. Probably either piano or oboe.

Why do you blog?
I started mine because I thought it could be useful in the long term for marketing my writing. But it's also a great way to keep track of friends and family and give them a glimpse at what's up with me.

Do you have any prejudices you're willing to acknowledge?
HMO executives. Airline executives. Telemarketers. People who think their own religion is the only one that counts.

What's the longest time you've stayed out of the country, and where?
I once spent two or three weeks in the South of France.

Do you use ICQ, AOL Buddy list etc...?
I have an AOL Buddy list. I don' t use it heavily though. Just a few friends are on it, and we I.M. each other if we're online at the same time.

If you were another person, would you be friends with you?
Sure. We have a lot in common.
