New Professional Bio

I needed to write a bio this week to go into the program book for the National Federation of Press Women conference in September. For this audience, I was trying for something pretty straightforward, nothing bizarre. But I also wanted to make it sound interesting rather than just reciting a list of publishing credits. Here's what I ended up with:

Catherine Petrini has written 28 books, mostly for children and teenagers. Her novels include 18 "Sweet Valley High" books, written under a pseudonym. In them, she terrorized London with a werewolf, devastated California with an earthquake, and masterminded the kidnaping of an entire cheerleading squad. Nonfiction book topics include dragons, Stonehenge, and Italian-American immigrants. A former magazine editor and NFPW officer, she hosts a radio show and has an MA in writing from Johns Hopkins.

My 100-word version was better, but I was working with a 75-word limit.

I like it too.

Any reason why you can't tell your pseudonym?

Yes. Because telling it would have put me over the 75-word limit!

I am allowed to reveal my pseudonyms for the Sweet Valley books, though I'm sworn to secrecy about my pseudonym for the OTHER teen series I wrote for. I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you.
