Teaser Tuesdays: Haroun & The Sea of Stories, by Salman Rushdie

July 29th, 2014 (01:30 pm)

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along. Just do the following:

• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

Rushdie - Haroun & The Sea of Stories
My teaser today is from page 32 of Haroun and the Sea of Stories, by Salman Rushdie, about a master storyteller who suddenly loses his ability to make up stories.

"There was a wrestling match at the ticket window instead of a queue, because everyone wanted to be first; and as most people were carrying chickens or children or other bulky items, the result was a free-for-all out of which feathers and toys and dislodged hats kept flying. And from time to time some dizzy fellow with ripped clothes would burst out of the melee, triumphantly waving a little scrap of paper: his ticket!"

Melee

Sounds really interesting! I recently had someone ask me if I'd read anything by him.

Mine this week is a drama about a woman with Borderline Personality Disorder (and there may be a bit of romance in there too...)

Great writing

I love this description! It's easy to see the melee at the ticket window, isn't it?
My Tuesday post features THE MOST UNSUITABLE WIFE. (http://sandranachlinger.blogspot.com)
