Teaser Tuesdays: A Bookish Meme

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

Grab your current read
Open to a random page
Share two “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

Anderson - Fever 1793Today I read Laurie Halse Anderson's wonderful young-adult historical novel, Fever 1793, about the 1793 yellow fever epidemic in Philadelphia. It was hard to put down; I read the whole book today, start to finish. (Similarly, yesterday I read started and finished the book Divergent, by Veronica Roth.)

And here's my teaser (page 151):

"There could be no running from this. Hiding from death was not like hiding from Mother when she wanted me to scrub kettles, or ignoring Silas when he begged for food. I was the only one left."

I've read this book before, several years ago, but I pulled out my copy this week because my son's English teacher is assigning it to his class. I hadn't planned to read the whole thing, but it sucked me in, as a good book will so often do. I hope my son likes it as much as I do.
